Krell

This creature's description may contain spoilers. Click to revealKrell grew up in Copperwood, just outside Absalom's northeast walls, a child of servants working in the Petal District. A year ago, Krell used his parents' keys to gain access to the manor home they serviced, attempting to steal several of the expensive art objects he'd heard his parents discussing. Unfortunately for Krell, the owners caught him in the act, and it took every ounce of loyalty his parents had earned to keep him out of jail. The scandal was severe enough that Krell's family disowned him and kicked him out of their home, cutting off contact with the son who had brought so much shame upon them.

Instead of taking this humiliation as a sign to live his life in a more wholesome direction, Krell decided to lean into his newfound independence from his family's rigid values and make the most of every opportunity for theft or burglary that happened to cross his path. He achieved moderate success in his favorite neighborhood, the Coins, where he eventually managed to afford a modest apartment of his own.

His crimes soon attracted the attention of the gang known as the Puddlejumpers led by the cruel halfling Benkt Slipshod. The Puddlejumpers warned Krell off their territory, unless of course he wanted to join up with them. When he refused on the grounds of their terrible reputation and cruelty, Slipshod knocked him out, tied him up, and traded him to Gewgaw for a pair of copper necklaces strewn with silver plates adorned with minor gemstones.

When encountered as a prisoner of Clan Orthux, Krell wears a soiled tan leather jerkin over a torn dark blue shirt and breeches with holes in the knees. He has curly red hair and bushy sideburns. His expression is warm, his eyes curious. He loudly professes that his primary interest is getting home to his apartment in the Coins, but he's easily distracted by opportunities to increase his personal wealth and isn't above encouraging the PCs to further investigate places like the Tomb of Sarnax or the Ship Chamber in search of plunder. An incorrigible thief, Krell can't resist looking for loot, even as he claims to be solely focused on escape.

At the beginning of the adventure, Krell is the least affected by toiler's gruel of all the members of his prison cell. He feels no special compulsion to follow orders and is fiercely protective of his fellow prisoners, pushing back strongly if the PCs attempt to abuse the other captives or callously order them into great danger simply for the convenience. He teams up with the similarly level-headed Blostin to make sure that his fellow captives are protected.
