You can enact a short ritual to haunt prey you’ve singled out. Once per day during your daily preparations, you can take 10 minutes to target a creature whose name you know (and who is within 100 miles). Upon completion of the ritual, the target immediately knows you are seeking them out and must attempt a Will save against your class DC or spell DC, whichever is higher. If you have never met the target, it gains a +4 circumstance bonus to the save.
Critical SuccessThe target knows of your intent, but is otherwise unaffected. The target becomes temporarily immune to this ritual for 1 week.
SuccessThe target is wracked by a sense of dread at your approach. The next time the target sees you before your next daily preparations, they become frightened 1.
FailureAs success, but the target becomes frightened 2 when they see you. They also become fatigued by the impending terror for 10 minutes after you perform this ritual.
Critical FailureAs failure, but the target is drained 1 for as long as it is fatigued.
Traits
Bugbear:
A creature with this trait is a furry, stealthy goblinoid. Bugbears tend to have darkvision.
Emotion:
This effect alters a creature’s emotions. Effects with this trait always have the mental trait as well. Creatures with special training or that have mechanical or artificial intelligence are immune to emotion effects.
Fear:
Fear effects evoke the emotion of fear. Effects with this trait always have the mental and emotion traits as well.
Mental:
A mental effect can alter the target’s mind. It has no effect on an object or a mindless creature.
Occult:
This magic comes from the occult tradition, calling upon bizarre and ephemeral mysteries. Anything with this trait is magical.
A creature with this trait is primarily constituted of or has a strong connection to occult magic.
