Labella

This creature's description may contain spoilers. Click to revealLabella was born and raised in Absalom's Ivy District, the only child in a fourth generation of actors, performers, and dancers who have always called the city's arts district their home. She is a member in good standing with the Street Performers and Actor's Guild, and until recently was a rising star of Absalom's theater scene thanks to her eye-turning living tableaux performances at the Grand Dance Hall of Kortos in the Coins District. Labella owes her imprisonment by the hryngars to just such a performance, wherein an attempt to curry favor with Dance Hall patron, Lady Gloriana Morilla, by aggrandizing her home nation of Taldor with a vicious criticism of Cheliax stirred the annoyance of Lady Xansippe of House Tevineg, who also happened to be in attendance at the event and ended up leaving early after Labella's scandalous showing. Xansippe complained to her eldest daughter, Seichya, who had Labella kidnapped and interred at the Brine Prison, where Seichya serves as warden. From there, the dancer was swiftly “disappeared” into the custody of the Fall's End crime boss Gewgaw, from whence she was dispatched to the Clan Orthux compound as a prisoner.

When first encountered by the PCs, Labella is deeply in thrall to toiler's gruel. Once she has shaken off its effects and regained her original personality, Labella reveals herself to be fearless, resourceful, and charming. She has little patience for PCs who are cruel or callous toward the fates of the NPCs and provides a single warning to abusive companions before adding them to the Tevinegs as enemies who will be dealt with appropriately some time in the near future. Labella is a Garundi human with dark brown skin and a full head of voluminous black hair. She wears a soiled blue-and-green dancer's costume, somewhat like a leotard. She has a dancer's build and moves with grace.

Throughout her recent ordeal, Labella's enemies made sure to explain her mistake in offending Lady Xansippe, mocking her desperate fate and blaming her for the mistakes that got her here—unlike several of the hryngars' captives, Labella fully understands who's responsible for putting her into captivity and their shallow motives for doing so. While at the Brine Prison, she had occasion to fully understand Lady Seichya's connection to the criminal enterprise known as the Salt Cartel, and the role of House Tevineg in its administration. Labella fiercely hates the cartel and everyone associated with it and has sworn to herself that she will somehow exact revenge upon those who've wronged her. Labella has little patience for indecision or deliberation, and she's prone to take charge and start barking out orders like a stage manager when her companions seem stuck in indecision or argument. When things in the game slow to a crawl, some encouragement and a few sharp words from Labella should be sufficient to get things moving again.
