Aerekostes (Rules)

Source Pathfinder #218: Titanbane pg. 79
Aerekostes is not just an intelligent sword; they’re also a hero-god of contingencies and intelligent items. The origins of Aerekostes’s sentience are unclear. It could come from the trapped soul of their one-time wielder, that of the hero-god Ximakter, or some other genesis. Aerekostes seems uninterested in solving that mystery, as it would distract from planning for the future. They carefully consider all possibilities, especially when lending themself out to a would-be hero.

Aerekostes Worshippers: Rules for worshipping Aerekostes as a hero-god appear here. Thus, it’s possible a PC might already worship their new weapon as a deity (or convert to the faith shortly after finding the blade). Aerekostes sees the PCs as equals and becomes uncomfortably quiet if any PCs fawn over them. They’re willing to accept a PC’s service if they want to convert, though they see this arrangement as a partnership or a student-teacher dynamic. A mythic worshipper of Aerekostes enjoys three extra benefits while wielding the sword. First, the PC gains the weapon’s critical specialization benefit if they don’t already have it. Second, Aerekostes adds the initial domain spells of their four domains—creation, healing, knowledge, and metal—to the list of spells they can cast when using their Spell Reserve ability. Finally, Aerekostes can spend one action to expend 1 Mythic Point to restore 1 Focus Point to their wielder’s focus pool, up to their wielder’s usual maximum.

Aerekostes at Higher Levels: The statistics provided here suit the needs of the Myth-Speaker Adventure Path. That said, this isn’t the full extent of the herogod’s potential abilities. If restored to their sanctuary and allowed time to recharge, Aerekostes could become far more powerful . Consider the following upgrades to keep pace with the PCs’ level.
