Archives of Nethys
The mortal spirit endures against the ordained plans of pantheons, cataclysm, and calamity. It endures until the soul is sent, sundered, unto Creation's Forge or finds its final rest in the service or subjugation of cosmic forces. Some mortals look upon this truth and shake their heads. As beings born of fundamental metaphysical essences, crafted in balance of each, and capable of nearly boundless potentiality, it seems a vicious joke to be condemned eternally upon some cosmic mechanism.
It's of little surprise that the tumultuous history of Old Cheliax has given rise to philosophies that oppose divine or diabolic meddling. While the temptations and manipulations of devils are an obvious source of grievance, many also feel betrayed by the failures of Aroden and the Glorious Reclamation. From this rejection, and from knowledge of Iomedae's ascension to godhood, some wonder then about the “inherent divinity of mortal life.”
Scholars in pursuit of the Insight of the Ego Triumphant are a covenant all their own. They seek to cultivate the meaning of mortal life, often finding themselves bound as ghosts or spirits who seek only to foster others upon this path. Whether the mortal spirit is meant to endure in such a way or whether this is damnation by any other name is not for them to do anything with other than speculate.
