The Green Mother (The Feasting Flower)Source Feybound pg. 180The natural world enchants and horrifies in equal measure, with breathtaking beauty and uncaring murder that bears no concern for mortal law or order. The wild seduces: deceptively thin snow glitters above a glacial crevasse; a riptide current waits beneath an inviting beach; the myriad hues of a predator's blood- soaked muzzle please the eye. While animals navigate this danger instinctively, many mortals who consider themselves more intelligent than beasts are nevertheless drawn in and consumed, angling the prow of their craft toward the ocean's vast, unknown horizon or rappelling into cavernous depths. Even somewhat less adventurous souls might disregard the bright, cautionary colors of hot peppers precisely because they enjoy the burn.
This realm of mating displays, vibrant toxic plants, and the satisfaction of the hunt is the domain of the Eldest known as the Green Mother. She embodies all the forces of nature, rarely limiting herself to a single humanoid form. Her hair might be a cloud of brambles one day and a hanging curtain of lichen the next. Her skin might resemble tree bark, or moss, or faceted quartz; she moves with the grace of a leopard and the precision of a diving falcon. Besotted petitioners say she smells of floral honey or fresh loam after the rain, and that her voice resounds like birdsong and flowing streams—but those who displease her might instead hear the fury of a trumpeting stag or the rumble of an avalanche.
The Green Mother dwells in the Hanging Bower, a woodland court made of platforms suspended on spidersilk ropes. Her territory also encompasses remote alpine peaks, colorful desert cliffs, and winding subterranean caverns warmed by geothermal springs, all of which she surveys from her throne, a giant flytrap that devours those who invoke her ire. Her court is a bustling hive of intrigue, but work is always balanced with play and relaxation, the Bower's pace shifting harmoniously from the frenzied energy of new spring growth to the sated slumber of winter.
Unlike her courtiers, the Green Mother never truly hibernates, always ready to meet any momentous event with the fervor of an oncoming storm. She maintains an extensive spy network of plants and creatures alike, and those who venture into her wilderness had best be wary and wily enough to survive the encounter. Nature is unswayed by mortal appeals; so too is she, only granting powers to those who mirror her wild, capricious voracity.
