Imbrex (The Twins)Source Feybound pg. 181Imbrex is the Eldest who is easiest to locate, yet arguably the least accessible. The Twins take the form of two immense statues clasping hands, each an androgynous humanoid with vaguely reptilian features. In all the time they've stood, the statues have neither moved nor changed expression. It's unknown whether they're literally the Eldest's bodies or a representation they inhabit; scholars also debate whether Imbrex is a twinned entity sharing a mind or a single creature split between the two statues. At Imbrex's feet sprawls Anophaeus, known as the First City. Initially constructed as a resting place for pilgrims, Anophaeus could be mistaken for a Universe metropolis were it not for the statues looming over it. Much of the city sprawls outward from the Twins, with its most prestigious locations climbing up their feet and ankles. Anophaeus has an unusually high proportion of twins born among its population, who are considered blessed by Imbrex's followers.
For their part, Imbrex hardly seems to notice their followers or Anophaeus, psychically defending the city from intruders on some occasions while remaining inert on others. Their telepathic commands are erratic and unpredictable, though residents of Anophaeus are quick to obey. Strange dreams often affect those near the statues: some prophetic, some unsettling, and all highly addictive. Some residents grow too obsessed with these dreams to even care for themselves.
While the Church of the Twins tries to interpret the dreams Imbrex sends, the bulk of this work is done by the Dreamshapers' Guild, led by Jenway Nightblossom (detached female asterid queen). Recently, the Dreamshapers have begun building an unusual vessel based off a vivid dream showcasing its schematics and mechanisms. Though allegedly intended to traverse the planes, the means by which the vessel might do so haven't yet been revealed to the Dreamshapers, who are divided on whether to attempt experiments on their own or wait for further guidance. Other residents have dreamed of this vessel arriving at a peculiar inverted city hanging in the sky, but all attempts to chart a course to this mysterious destination have failed. These dreamers believe only the Dreamshapers' vessel can find this city, and they've been urging the guild to finish it so they can begin their journey.
Rumors whisper that if Imbrex ever walks, it will mean the unmaking of both the First World and the Universe. Occasionally, some nihilistic follower of Imbrex attempts to bring this about—though these efforts have had no effect thus far. Imbrex's church, the Church of the Twins, avoids interfering with such attempts, in case the Statue Lords (with their interest in apocalypses and dramatic endings) want them to succeed.
