PFS StandardMagdh (The Three)

Source Feybound pg. 184
From her forest abode, Magdh watches how the skeins of individual fates interweave, each small action rippling through what is to be. Though a seer with no equal, she's wary of inflicting too much foreknowledge upon others or tampering with fate. She appears as a human woman with three faces set around her head, one bearing black hair, one red, and one blond. These faces often rotate mid-conversation, each expressing different emotions or aspects of her personality— though not always the same ones. Occasionally, she can even split into three women, though this seems to take an emotional toll. Communication with Magdh is a bewildering affair, as she cloaks her statements in cryptic language, and interpreting her prophecies is never straightforward.

Like many of the Eldest, Magdh's origins are mysterious. One story says she was originally three norns who bound themselves together, intentionally or not, into one entity. Whatever the truth, Magdh's affinity for norns can't be denied, as they're some of the few permitted to assist her in her domain, the Forest Pools. This series of ponds deep in the Weeping Wood spread throughout a grassy glen, continually shrouded in a mist that wards off outside observers unless Magdh allows them in. Here, she performs her divinations, aided by a small retinue of norns and fey dragonets, reading future fates within the rippling surface of the water.

When Magdh chooses to share her knowledge— couched in riddles or koans—she never does so for free. Her prices, even by fey standards, are opaque; she may ask for the last gasp of a dying queen or a long-forgotten relic, but other tolls seem less consequential, like the eye of a cherished childhood toy or a ticket from a recent boat trip. The hardship of the payment has no discernible connection to the significance of the knowledge granted, or at least, if one exists, only Magdh is aware of it. The other Eldest tread cautiously around Magdh, as she's glimpsed the final fates of all beings—even them. The exception is Shyka, with their own knowledge of branching futures, although Magdh's focus is on individual destinies rather than the timestream as a whole. At times, the two appear to disagree over trivial details, and Magdh sometimes chides Shyka for what she views as dangerous meddling with mortal destinies. Magdh views herself as an observer, first and foremost, and believes that putting even a well-intentioned hand on the scales of an individual's journey risks disaster.

Those who pledge themselves to Magdh are often seers or fortune-tellers, wishing to obtain fragments of her prophetic visions. To hear her prophecies is to be granted both the gift of a shard of foresight, and the curse of unraveling its meaning.
