Ragadahn (The Water Lord)Source Feybound pg. 186Tales of Ragadahn's arrogance and tempestuous temperament far precede him. While such stories are by no means unfounded—the Water Lord is vicious when slighted, protective of his territories, and fond of his great accoutrement of titles—they're sometimes exaggerated. They overlook that behind his fearsome visage is a keen and patient mind, with a hunger for esoteric lore that's as ancient, depthless, and ravenous as the seas.
Deep within the darkest trench of the Cerulean Sea lies Karaphas the Drowned, a city with soaring bridges, mollusk-encrusted streets, and sodden chambers shrouded in perpetual mystery. No being in the First World knows the story of its origin, though most suspect that it was built in ages past by a group of unknown residents. Whatever its beginnings, Ragadahn has made his home in one of Karaphas's grandest structures: a cavernous, millennia-old space that may once have been a seat of governance, a theater, or something else entirely. Now, it serves as his temple and home, and he has filled its tiered dome with priceless curios and artifacts from his personal collection.
It is no wonder, then, that Ragadahn is so protective of his domain. In this city lie a plethora of texts he has amassed through untold years of scholarship— knowledge he guards zealously out of fear it will be stolen. There's no easier way to rouse the Water Lord's ire than by trespassing in Karaphas without his permission, and many a foolish adventurer and unknowing passerby have suffered the consequences of such a misstep beneath his baleful and imperious gaze. Still, he is pragmatic. At times, he recruits creatures he considers inferior to act as his custodians, blinding them so they cannot read his texts while caring for them. More rarely, he recruits linguists who can translate more erudite tomes for him, and these he binds magically to his will.
The few who would dare attempt to bargain their way to his stores had best do so carefully, for nothing less than the protection of another Eldest can hold Ragadahn's mental manipulations at bay. He is a cunning and clever speaker, fond of verbal traps. With sinister subtlety, he can coax even the most tight-lipped visitor into discussions of the subjects they most dearly wish to understand. In this way, Ragadahn ensures he retains the upper hand.
