Unique Complex Haunt
Source Pathfinder #218: Titanbane pg. 15
Complexity Complex
Stealth +22 (expert) to sense the terror of the spirits inside the vault
Description The spirits of the island’s citizens manifest and panic as the vault fills with seawater.
Disable DC 33 Athletics (trained) twice to Force Open the vault’s door or DC 30 Religion (trained) three times to exorcise the spirits
Flooding Vault [reaction] Trigger A living creature spends more than 1 minute inside the vault; Effect The vault’s door slams shut, trapping any creatures inside. Meanwhile, the souls of the dozens of citizens who died when Pakilykos sank manifest throughout the vault. The haunt then rolls initiative.
Routine (1 action) Water begins to fill the vault from a crack in the floor hidden beneath the bones. The spirits of the citizens panic and grasp at the living, begging them to act. Each creature in the vault takes 2d10+13 void damage with a basic DC 28 Fortitude saving throw. On a failure, the creature is also enfeebled 1 (or enfeebled 2 on a critical failure).
The first time the hazard takes this action, water fills the vault to knee-height, making the area difficult terrain. The second time the hazard takes this action, the vault fills halfway with water, and creatures inside must succeed at a DC 15 Athletics check each round to Swim. The third time the hazard takes this action, the vault fills entirely with water, and creatures inside must hold their breath.
Reset The waters recede and the spirits disappear once no living creatures remain inside the vault, but the haunt resets immediately, triggering again if a living creature steps inside.
