Complexity Complex
Stealth +12 (trained)
Description Four magically treated gems used to store fragments of souls begin glowing with an eerie malevolence.
Disable DC 22 Arcana (trained), Occultism (trained), or Religion (trained) to quiet one of the four grasping gems
Gem AC 21; Fort +14, Ref +8
Gem Hardness 12, HP 14 per gem (BT 7); Immunities critical hits, object immunities, precision damage
Phantom Hands [reaction] (spirit) Trigger A living creature is adjacent to a grasping gem’s shelf; Effect The room becomes awash with eerie light as ghostly hands reach out from all directions. Each living creature in the room must attempt a DC 24 Fortitude save. The haunt then rolls initiative.

Critical Success The creature is unaffected.
Success The phantom hands interfere with the creature’s movements. The creature takes a –2 status penalty to its initiative roll.
Failure The phantom hands hold the creature in place. The creature takes a –2 status penalty to its initiative roll and is immobilized (Escape DC 24) for the first round.
Critical Failure As failure, but if the creature attempts to Escape during the first round, it must roll twice and take the worse result. This is a misfortune effect.
Routine (2 actions) During the haunt’s first action, the grasping gems attempt an Athletics check (at a +14 modifier) to Grapple each non-immobilized living creature in the room, rolling once and comparing the result to each target’s Fortitude DC. For every gem that is disabled or destroyed, the haunt takes a cumulative –1 circumstance penalty to the check. For the haunt’s second action, the gems’ ghostly hands squeeze their victims. Each creature immobilized by the haunt takes 2d8+5 bludgeoning damage (DC 21 basic Fortitude save).
Reset The haunt deactivates 1 minute after all living creatures have left the room. One hour after this or being Disabled, the haunt is ready to trigger again. Putting Thalleus’s spirit to rest permanently (page 71) destroys the haunt.
