Description A mysterious portrait lies face down on the floor.
Disable DC 31 Thievery (trained) to carefully dismantle the portrait without jostling it enough to trigger it or DC 33 Religion (expert) to exorcise the haunt; 3 successes are required to disable it.
You Will Know My Name! [reaction] (emotion, fear, mental, occult, visual) Trigger A creature attempts to move the portrait; Effect Once someone flips the portrait over, they see a headless man portrayed in fine clothing, only to have the name “VELICARN” appear across the portrait in the form of bloody letters that run from the headless man’s raw stump. If the triggering creature didn’t attempt to look at the portrait, the painting wrenches and twists to present itself to the target, who must succeed at a DC 28 Will save to avoid becoming frightened 1 (frightened 2 on a critical failure). A moment later, a trio of shadowy forms that drip and splatter blood surge out from the portrait, leaving it a blank canvas. These shapes appear vaguely as headless humanoids made of red smoke and leave bloodstains wherever they touch, but they’re otherwise treated as typical wraiths. The wraiths roll initiative and remain for 1 minute, after which they vanish, and the portrait becomes a blank but bloodstained canvas. The wraiths also vanish if someone disables the haunt before the duration expires.
