Monofilamental

A monofilamental is a floating bubble made of glowing, crystalline strands. From this complex web of interconnected threads, a highly ordered intelligence emerges, one capable of turning each of its delicate skeins into an unbreakable, serrating lash.

Drifting through the Darklands on subterranean air currents, a monofilamental looks as delicate as a soap bubble or spider web. In fact, the psychic intelligence that animates the monofilamental exerts an unbreakable mental control over each of its strands, granting them unrivaled tensile strength. A single monofilamental thread can slice through steel or stone, to say nothing of the flesh and bone toward which the construct unerringly drifts. If monofilamental thread could be harvested, it would both be a powerful tool and a fearsome weapon; when a monofilamental dies, however, so too does the mental force that fortifies each thread.

Sidebar - Additional Lore Collective Network

Although intelligent, monofilamentals are spun by—and exist only to serve—a species of non-sapient spiders native to the Plane of Earth. Working collectively through instinct, clusters of these extraplanar spiders spin webs of unmatched complexity, some of which awaken to sentience as monofilamentals. Once created, a monofilamental bends its brilliant psychic intellect toward a narrow purpose: fetching meat for its arachnid creators.
