Frog Prince

Lo and behold the tale of the frog prince, often depicted as a lost royal transformed by vile machinations. His daring, amphibious exploits are all in search of the destined love who’ll elevate him to his true form and his rightful place upon the throne—or so it goes. When such stories persist in a region, whether as folk tales about a nearby pond or as placation for excitable children before bedtime, the innocent belief in their plight seemingly invokes an inexplicable, ancient power that gives form to frog princes. These fey appear as unusually large frogs, gifted with a capacity for expression atypical for most amphibians.

Sidebar - Additional Lore The Court Beyond The Pond

Few tales tell what follows the happily ever afters of frog princes and their beloveds. Elevated by the power of true love, or perhaps by unfathomable ancient rites, frog princes sometimes ascend to become frog kings. These greater fey harbor abilities bordering on the divine, as if anointed by an almighty yet elusive force. A frog king’s reach expands beyond the borders of his previously humble waters, encompassing even more bodies of water over an entire region. Thus do their watery demesnes attract even powerful fey who willingly swear fealty to this new sovereign.
