Puntzelken

A puntzelken is a short, stocky creature, roughly the size of an adult dwarf, and resembles nothing so much as an anthropomorphic egg. Puntzelkens are usually encountered near mortal settlements, where they seek out vantage points that offer opportunities to converse with passersby: bridges, fence posts, or walls alongside well-traveled roads. Despite their enthusiasm for social interaction, most puntzelkens come across as condescending and arrogant, seemingly engaging in conversation for the sole purpose of lording their knowledge over others.

Slow and uncoordinated, puntzelkens generally avoid combat, using their innate magic to flee if a confrontation turns violent. A provoked puntzelken, however, can prove a capable combatant, viciously pummeling enemies with the silver spoon-like implement they carry as a walking stick.

Any creature that pays attention or engages them in conversation must attempt a DC 15 Will save. Regardless of the outcome, the creature is temporarily immune to Confident Rambles for 1 hour.

FailureThe creature believes the puntzelken’s claims for 1 minute. It can attempt a new saving throw if presented with clear evidence against the puntzelken’s claims but can’t attempt more than one save per piece of evidence. Failed saving throws don’t extend the effect’s duration.
Critical FailureAs failure, but the duration is 1 hour.

Sidebar - Additional Lore Bad Eggs

For reasons unknown (and mostly unexplored), puntzelkens are deeply sensitive about their physical resemblance to eggs, reacting with defensiveness and even outright denial whenever the subject is broached. The surest way to rouse a puntzelken’s ire is to repeatedly poke fun at their appearance, and a puntzelken so provoked often flies into a violent rage, lashing out at their detractors with brutal fury. This often takes those accustomed to the fey’s congenial demeanor by surprise—with bloody or even fatal results.
