Yig

To call Yig benign is perhaps too generous, but among the eldritch entities that comprise the Great Old Ones and Outer Gods, the word is indeed apropos. While those who worship Yig know that the patience of the so-called Father of Serpents is limited and expect no kindness from him, Yig nonetheless seeks vengeance against those who harm his beloved serpents—and sometimes his non-serpent worshippers as well.

Eldritch Mind A creature that initiates direct contact with Yig's thoughts (such as via a spell like mind probe or mind reading, but not simply via telepathic conversation) must succeed at a DC 44 Will save or become stupefied 2 and confused for 1 minute (or for an unlimited duration on a critical failure).Immortal Yig doesn't need to eat, drink, or breathe, nor does he age. If Yig is reduced to 0 HP, his body dies and decays normally, but he is reborn 3 months later or on the next equinox, whichever comes first, hatching from the egg of a venomous serpent (although not necessarily on the same planet). He spends the following year in the form of this venomous snake, after which he sheds his skin and emerges once again as Yig, repeating this cycle as often as necessary if he dies again as a snake during that year. Typically, Yig does not hold grudges against those who slew him, but this is not always the case.Unspeakable Presence (aura, primal) 300 feet. A creature that begins their turn in the aura must succeed at a DC 41 Will save or become more susceptible to curses, thereafter taking a –4 status penalty to all saving throws against curse effects for 1 year. A creature normally immune to curses instead loses that immunity on a failed Will save until the start of their next turn.

Change Shape [one-action] (concentrate, polymorph, primal) Yig transforms into a snake or other serpentine creature. This doesn't affect his statistics other than to prevent him from making claw Strikes.Curse of Yig [reaction] (curse, primal) Trigger Yig damages a creature with a melee Strike; Effect Yig's touch distorts the flesh, mind, and soul of the creature he touches, who must attempt a DC 44 Will save.
Critical SuccessThe creature is unaffected. Though Yig could choose to attempt to impart his curse on the creature again, he generally choses not to, seeking to curse others (preferably the family and friends of the one who resisted his initial attempt) instead.
SuccessThe creature takes a –4 status penalty to all saving throws against mental or poison effects for 1 minute.
FailureAs success, but the penalty has an unlimited duration. Additionally, the creature loses any immunity or resistance to poison it had as long as it remains cursed, and whenever the creature takes poison damage it becomes slowed 1 for 1 round from the agony of the amplified pain caused by the curse.
Critical FailureAs failure, but slowed 2 for 1 round when taking poison damage. In addition, this curse is hereditary and is automatically passed on to any creatures the cursed creature sires, births, or creates.
Devastating Strikes Yig ignores the first 20 points of Hardness possessed by any object he Strikes with a melee attack.Greater Constrict [one-action] 4d6+20 bludgeoning, DC 44Mythic Power Yig has 3 Mythic Points.
  • Recharge [one-action] (concentrate) Cost 1 Mythic Point; Effect Yig regains an expended spell.
  • Remove a Condition [one-action] (concentrate) Cost 1 Mythic Point; Effect Yig ends one condition affecting him.
  • Reroll [free-action] (fortune) Cost 1 Mythic Point; Trigger Yig fails a check; Effect Yig rerolls the check.
  • Undying Myth [free-action] Cost all of Yig's Mythic Points; Trigger Yig would die and has at least 1 Mythic Point; Effect Yig remains standing and conscious, and recovers 250 Hit Points.
Rend [one-action] clawSerpentine Dreams When a creature experiences a nightmare due to a nightmare spell cast by Yig and that creature has at any point in their life willingly harmed a snake, suffered from the Curse of Yig, or has slain a cleric of Yig, the creature dreams of being transformed into a snake themselves. When the creature awakens, they must attempt a DC 44 Will save against the effects of a 10th-rank cursed metamorphosis spell that attempts to transform them into a harmless snake.Yig's Venom (poison) Saving Throw DC 44 Fortitude; Maximum Duration 10 rounds; Stage 1 7d6 poison damage and sickened 2 (1 round); Stage 2 8d6 poison damage, sickened 2, and drained 1 (1 round); Stage 3 8d6 poison damage, sickened 3, and drained 2 (1 round). Poison damage inflicted by Yig's venom ignores the first 15 points of poison resistance a creature possesses.

Great Old Ones

Although Yig is one of the least powerful of the Great Old Ones, his might vastly outstrips that of most mortal creatures. He exists outside of the cycle of souls and is immortal—if a way exists that Yig can be permanently slain, none yet know it. Likewise, no one can say for certain where Yig’s home world lies. Indeed, the Great Old One counts any world on which serpents might be found as his own.

Yig's Worshippers

Yig has worshippers on many worlds, and unlike most Great Old Ones, he sometimes takes notice of those who venerate him. He has even been known to reward his faithful from time to time—a trait not shared by the other Great Old Ones. Worship of Yig has long been a point of friction in sekmin society, where venerating deities other than Ydersius is often synonymous with treason. Additional information concerning Yig's worshippers, including his clerics, can be found here
