Pech

The riotous clamor of stone against stone in the First World often heralds the presence of a hidden pech quarry. While peches may use tools and their innate magic for mining and construction, such is the extent of their practicality. These subterranean fey are otherwise wholly committed to using their bodies alone to refine earthen bounty, crushing stone bare-handed and cutting gemstones against their muscles to create art. To chisel and polish their muscles of stone, peches pursue their crafts with near obsession, honing their skills—and physiques—to the highest possible pinnacle. Their sequestered settlements give them the privacy to pursue their ascetic lifestyles, though peches are surprisingly unperturbed by well-meaning visitors. They're aware of the great effort needed for a mortal to reach their abodes and acknowledge those who accomplish such a feat, especially outsiders who express interest in stonecraft or bodybuilding. Peches might even honor an especially skilled guest with a gift: one of their highly coveted stone crafts, created through years, if not decades, of labor. For outsiders who cause trouble, however, peches offer only the full force of their supernatural strength.

Peches are short-statured humanoids with chiseled, stony physiques that become increasingly polished as they grow more skilled in their trades. Their stony skin naturally grows patches of moss, which resembles hair, and many peches cultivate this moss in various styles to complement the presentation of their muscles.

Sidebar - Related Creatures Basilik Brawlers

Wrangling and taming wild basilisks is a popular pech pastime, and larger settlements even dedicate space to train these creatures as mounts and companions. Peches make a sport of wrestling particularly large specimens in rings at the center of their communities, with the most dedicated enthusiasts training basilisks to be their partners in tag-team matches. An unintended consequence of domesticating these beasts is that visitors run the risk of petrification by simply entering a pech settlement, where the average denizen might have a pet basilisk relaxing in a corner of their abode. However, pech hosts are usually considerate enough to provide cures.
