Shadow Collector

When the traitor Count Ranalc was banished to the Netherworld, loyal sprites, gnomes, and nymphs of his court were exiled alongside him. Millennia in the shadows changed these courtiers into shadow collectors—mirrials in their own tongue. These small fey prowl the Netherworld and its borderlands, searching out wayward shadows to add to their vast collections.

According to legend, when the fey who would become mirrials first arrived in the Netherworld, their new shadowy home's lack of light meant they no longer cast the same twisting shadows they'd had in the First World. Despairing, the fey crept into the Universe, stalking midnight forests and dreary foothills to steal the shadows of unsuspecting mortals. When these first few stolen shadows cast barely a single foot of darkness, they took more and more, weaving their treasures together until they had terrifying shadows the size of dragons and giants.

Sidebar - Additional Lore Shadow Crafters

Mirrials are valued members of shae courts and kayal cities across the Netherworld, where they use their skill in manipulating shadows to weave subtly magical shadowspun items. Shadowspun cloaks and gloves, either woven directly from a client’s shadow or crafted from wayward shadows mysteriously separated from their original owners, are the envy of every court, collection, and high society parlor across the Netherworld and beyond.
