Strix Hunter

Where there is one strix hunter, more likely lie in wait. Strix hunters rely on practiced coordination with their kin, spending many hours training until their maneuvers seamlessly link together. This allows hunters to unleash a barrage of attacks while staying on the move and rapidly trading positions in battle. While strix hunters might train in groups of a dozen or more, a hunting party on the prowl is typically made up of no more than six individuals. These hunters interchange roles and have no set leader, with each member calling the shots in a loose rotation. This communal decision-making style shines when facing intelligent foes, baffling opponents who might normally rely on targeting a leader to break formation and morale.

Whether they fight together or alone, strix hunters rely on their ability to swoop in and out of melee while quickly changing weapons to disorient their enemies and keep them from finding any one tactic to fight back. The coordinated flurry of arrows, blades, and talons a strix hunting party can deliver is usually devastating to their prey. If the victim should live through it, they are left reeling.

Strix hunters rarely take trophies from their kills, as they consider the use of their martial skills to be practical elements of survival—whether they are hunting for food or driving off unwanted intruders.

Sidebar - Additional Lore Hunting Songs

Strix often sing to each other on a hunt as a way of secretly coordinating their movements. While a community has general calls that might be used for indicating emergencies and other important events, strix hunting teams often develop unique and intricate messages within the group. They drill these short melodic phrases until they are second nature. Over time, these phrases often get adapted by their community, becoming used as a leitmotifs in retellings of their hunts or even as casual slang among the next generation.

Sidebar - Additional Lore Strix Storytelling

Strix history and mythology are passed down through oral tradition. Every strix, even those from different tribes, knows nearly identical tales of their ancestral history and spiritual sermons. Always performing the tales in their own language, strix only share these ancestral stories with those they consider kin. Even among outsiders, strix hold the skill of storytelling in high regard and are fond of finely performed spoken narratives.
