His hideous appearance is emphasized in all sorts of tales about him, regardless of whether the goal of the stories were to praise or disparage him. He is known as the god of ogres, darkness, illicit relationships and illicit deals among the few giants and even fewer ogres who worship him. His followers likewise become more unsightly the longer and more fervently they revere him. The only traits of Haggakal that are highlighted more than his unpleasant looks are his unholy strength and incredible cunning.
Many practices of Father Moon’s followers revolve around the phases of the moon. The waning moon means Haggakal has turned his back to the world to indulge in his more unsavory areas of concern, to incite the breaking of promises and bonds by offering people their deepest desires. He might proffer a newlywed, for example, with financial stability and, in return, ask for unfaithfulness to their spouse; he can tempt someone who has been wronged with the strength needed to enact revenge and, in return, ask for them to violently revolt against the benevolent leadership of their town. Haggakal takes great pleasure in the guilt and chaos born from these types of deals and encourages his followers to similarly sow discord during this lunar phase. The waxing moon signals Haggakal’s return and a facade of civility along with him.
