Acavna (The Shield)Source Divine Mysteries pg. 300Acavna, the Shield, was one of humanity’s fiercest protectors. Legends of her tactics and exploits spanned the entirety of the Azlanti Empire. Her most famous act of heroism led to her death during the events of Earthfall. Determined to protect her people, Acavna refused to stand down despite her partner Amaznen’s pleas. She used her magic to move Golarion’s moon in the way of the incoming meteor, absorbing most of the destructive blast. Her body fell from the sky and plunged into the planet’s core. The Mordant Spire grew from her remains, and the
elves who reside there claim to hear Acavna whispering to them.
Acavna’s teachings encouraged her followers to defend those who were less fortunate. Many of her faithful were found within the ranks of city guard or local law enforcement. Despite this, she was known to be more rebellious and free-spirited in nature. Her final actions inspired those with kind and compassionate hearts to take up her mantle to expand and eventually rebuild the Azlanti empire. Her ancient followers were said to be some of the first to explore Golarion’s moon, fiercely fighting against the construction of a prison, yet ultimately failing.
Despite her not granting divine power anymore, worship of Acavna and following of her teachings lives on in modern Golarion, sequestered to small sects located around the Mordant Spire. If her spirit lingers anywhere on Golarion, it’s felt most in that area. Modern followers continue to follow paths of protection, and many take up jobs as mercenaries or traveling bodyguards. Favoring defensive tactics, her followers rarely start fights, but they can finish them.
