Maelstrom itself, Il’surrish the Wanderer is a formless, shapeless
protean lord presiding over the untold infinities of unrealized potentials and possibilities. It celebrates the undefined and undecided, plans that linger unmade, power and discipline relinquished, and wild, unrestrained transformation. The Wanderer defies the pattern of chaotic philosophies championing the extremes of personal liberties and independence, teaching its followers to yield their avidity for control and instead allow the chaos inherent to the multiverse to guide them like a leaf gliding through a stream.
Il’Surrish’s mortal cult attracts artists, martyrs, and transmuters. Its protean clergy in the Maelstrom, known as the Asomatous Clutch, have the same insubstantiality as their patron. These groups rarely erect permanent temples to Il’Surrish, instead performing their rites and ceremonies along river rapids, at wells of anarchic planar energy, and anywhere the Maelstrom touches another plane.
The Wanderer’s followers typically use a swirling, cosmic orb to represent the formless Protean Lord. Though it sometimes manifests as a slithering protean of intense cerulean light, it prefers to possess
demon,
devil, or
archon vessels to puppet and speak through.
