Vale (The Court of Ancestors)Source Divine Mysteries pg. 316When souls are judged in
Pharasma’s court, the
psychopomp usher Vale serves as the
Boneyard’s chief prosecutor. They judge mortals on their actions and the impact their actions have on the world, disregarding their thoughts, beliefs, and even intentions. To Vale, a mortal only proves themselves good or evil through deeds enacted and choices made; there is no kernel of innate purity or corruption within a mortal soul, and no change wrought upon the multiverse from the privacy of the heart or mind.
Vale was created when the first wave of the River of Souls crashed against the Boneyard, carrying the cosmic weight of all mortal cultures and the influence their cultures wrought upon their hearts. They are called the Court of Ancestors, as they are the usher of consequences, superstitions, and mortal traditions, gathering and safeguarding knowledge of life on the Universe. They also care for the souls of mortals whose faith was dedicated to concepts or philosophies unrelated to the gods. Their worshippers include storytellers and those currently mourning a great loss, and they construct temples or pray to the usher in archives, courthouses, next to gallows, and before their hearths.
